About MARIANNE

I was still at university studying  for a degree in the ancient craft of bookbinding when we bought our first home together in Walthamstow in 1999.  At the time we thought we would stay for a few years then move on elsewhere but over 20 years later, we now consider ourselves 'Stow Trailblazers' and can't imagine living anywhere other than E17.

 One of our priorities in that first year of our new home was to acquire a kitten because what is a new home without a cat?  We chose Wellington (Welly) from a tumble of kittens in a box and brought her to her forever home that she clearly thought was wonderful, somehow managing to run several laps around our front room jumping from one item of furniture to shelf, to table etc, without touching the floor once.   Welly slotted straight in, owning every inch of our home like all amazing house cats. 


Heartbreakingly, our beautiful  Wellington succumbed to old age, aged 18.5 years and suddenly there was a huge Wellington-shaped hole in our lives.

The Cool Stow Cats cat sitting service in E17 is born...

 In the summer of 2019 I discovered the wonderful world of cat-sitting quite by chance.  It was such a pleasure to do my “rounds” early in the morning and evening, out in all weathers on foot or pedal bike, exploring areas of the Stow that I didn’t necessarily know, visiting and caring for some really Cool Stow Cats.  
On holiday in late October 2019 I decided to set up Cool Stow Cats.  This meant that I could look after cats early and late in the day (yay!) then spend the middle of the day indulging in my other passions of metalsmithing (jewellery) and bookbinding at home - it was a perfect combination!  By Christmas 2019 I had my first official private client Big Ginger (or 'Big Ginge' as I affectionately call him - photo right) and despite the chaos caused by the Coronavirus in 2020, I'm delighted to say that I now have over 100 Cool Stow Cats that I care for regularly.

Visiting local cats is a wonderful way to honour Welly’s memory and her spirit goes with me on every single visit.
